For the next twenty minutes we are supposed to write about whatever we want. Now that is a serious challenge for me because I don't really have much to say... to the public.I have been banging my head against my computer for about five minutes now trying to decide what I should write about. At least it's burning calories, though and given this is the holiday season I can use all the calorie burning I can get. I have now decided that I am going to be extremely unoriginal and rant about the shootings in Connecticut.
I was on Facebook the other day and I saw a genius quote from Morgan Freeman putting reason behind the insanity of this man. He said: "Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody." This is a great analysis of this man because it is so true. Because we are giving this man so much publicity it has 'inspired' more people so go out and do even crazier and worse things. If we just stop giving these people so much attention no one will want to one up them.
We never see the names of all of the victims on the news, it is always about the horrible man who killed them. While it is good to victimize this person for the horrible things that he did, it is giving the next crazy man (or woman) sitting in their basement scheming up what they can do to get noticed an even bigger incentive to do something worse than the guy before them.
What occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary gives us all a reason to be thankful for what we have this holiday season and think back on our lives and appreciate everything we have been blessed with.
Now to apologize for this awful post please enjoy this picture of a ferret in a santa hat.
